This post today is about how to make the most out of your morning. Since I started doing these things every morning, I feel like a new person; I’m not nearly as stressed and I actually look forward to getting up every day. I wake up around 6:30 every morning, and that usually gives me plenty of time to do these things before 8:00 AM. My work schedule is kind of weird, so some days I have to be there earlier than others, but I still like to stick to a schedule when it comes to my sleeping and morning routine. I feel much better when I am being consistent!
1. Drink a glass of cold water

The absolute first thing I do every morning (well, after I pee) is drink a cold glass of water. It helps to make me feel more awake and alert, and it erases that last bit of sleepiness I feel behind my eyes. It’s also just really refreshing.
2. Meditate/visualize

After my delicious glass of water, I’ll usually go back upstairs to my office and meditate for about 5 to 10 minutes. I do this mostly just to clear my head and set my goal for the day. I always want to start off my days fresh, with a positive mindset, so I think meditating is a good way to ensure there is no bad leftover energy from the night before. After meditating, I’ll take another 5 minutes and visualize how I want my day to go; this just helps to set in motion a plan and helps motivate me.
3. Journal

After meditating I’ll head over to my journal and write down 5 things I’m grateful for. They can be anything! Your dog, your hair, the sun, your mom, your house, anything! I love doing this because it makes me realize I have so much to be grateful for. It sets a positive tone for the rest of the day and makes anything bad that happens a bit less bad.
4. Shower

After I journal I’ll take a shower. Showering helps to wake me up and get in the groove for whatever I have planned that day.
5. Affirmations

Usually right out of the shower, still wrapped in a towel, I’ll do my affirmations in the mirror. I’m not sure why, but it feels more meaningful if I don’t have my makeup on yet. Some examples of affirmations are “I am beautiful”, “I am talented and intelligent”, “I am in control”, “I am worthy”. It felt really awkward to do this at first, but now it feels weird if I don’t do it. This is probably the most important part in my morning routine; it helped me to rewire my brain and completely helped boost my confidence. I still have bad days, but not nearly as often as before I started doing this.
6. Get ready

After my affirmations, I get ready. I put on my clothes (that I set out the night before) and do my hair and makeup. I try not to spend too much time doing this, but I don’t rush it either. I want to feel good about myself for the day otherwise I won’t be as confident, so taking a minute on my appearance is worth it.
7. Breakfast

You know what they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day! I usually aim for a well-rounded breakfast, so I feel satisfied for at least a few hours. I want to feel good about the food I put into my body, so I try my best to at least start my day with a healthy meal. An example of a common breakfast for me is a bowl of cream of wheat, 2 scrambled eggs, and some type of fruit (usually grapes or a nectarine). This will usually hold me over until lunch without me getting too hungry, and I feel good about what I’ve eaten.
8. Short walk (outdoors)

Last but not least, if I have time, I like to do a 10 minute walk around the neighborhood. I enjoy the fresh air and it helps my food digest better. I’ll usually take my dog with me, and it helps to add some more positivity to the day by seeing her excitement and by getting some sun.
Alright guys, there you have it! A morning routine to look forward to. My entire way of thinking has completely shifted since I started doing these things every morning; I feel like a new person! I hope they help you as well!

This is great Lex! I like to do my gratitude journalling in the morning too. I feel like it gets my day off to a good start! Since the pandemic I’ve also been walking my pup in the mornings which we both really love. One thing that you reminded me I need to get back to doing is drinking a glass of water first thing, before my coffee. Thanks for this!

Thanks for sharing these tips! I go through a similar routine daily. First thing I do is make my bed and my water is sometimes infused with liquid chlorophyll!

That’s so cool! My boyfriend is usually still asleep when I get up so I can’t make the bed right away, or I definitely would 😂 I’ve never heard of putting chlorophyll in my water! I’m gonna look up the benefits right now! Thanks so much for reading! 😊

Great post! I haven’t been writing in my journal as much as I used to, we share similar morning routines. I love exercising and getting ready for the day the best, though. x

Yeah, I used to love exercising in the morning, but with my new schedule it’s so hard to fit it in. A quick walk usually works nicely though! Thanks for reading!

I will always respect and appreciate people who wake up before 7 am. My dream schedule would be waking up at 5.30 am, doing all the AMAZING things you’ve said and then blogging for the rest of the day and working on uni projects. Funny enough I always end up waking up at 11 am. Any tips on how to wake up early? Thanks for the tips!

Waking up early was actually so hard for me to start doing; I had to do it where i would just set my alarm for about 15 minutes earlier every day until I was waking up at 6:30. It took about 6 months of adjustment! I also never hit the snooze button and I use an alarm clock instead if my phone to wake me up, and I keep it away from my bed so I have to physically get up to shut it off. Those are the biggest things that really helped me!

Hi, morning routine is similar to yours except I commute to work. I love starting my day with prayer and positivity. Sometimes on my commute to work I do videos to engage with others .

Journaling works for me best in the morning, but if you can’t fit it in, doing it at night has great benefits as well! Same with going on an evening walk instead if a morning one!

This is such a good post – a good morning routine is so important! I find it makes me so much more motivated and focused for the day ahead. The first thing I do every morning is drink a pint of water! And i’ve just started getting back into meditating in the mornings too 🙂

That’s great! Hydrating first thing does wonders for your skin and digestive system. And it’s great you’re meditating as well! Not many people do but I’ve found it so helpful when starting my day!

I definitely want to get in the habit of going on walks in the morning, or at least getting some type of movement in. I’m always so slow going in the mornings because I’m an evening person, but when I actually get myself moving I always am glad I did!
